This is the good kind of fever to catch!
For the past couple of years the Wright family has skied the Kortelopet (Korte) near Cable, Wisconsin. A 29k skate or classic race on the Birkie trails. We have so much fun that I want to encourage all High School skiers (13+ age) to consider skiing it with us this next year. It is a super fun, supportive, beautiful event with food stations, best groomed trails – ever. The course is filled with so many skiers of every level and age – out there challenging themselves and enjoying skiing with others. The atmosphere is charged with excitement, laughter and snow! I’d love to see our team (any skiers interested) give it a try. The Korte is on Friday, Feb 24, 2023. If there is interest, our team could stay over night and volunteer on Saturday at a food station and cheer on the Birkie (50k) skiers. Last year Kikkan Randall competed, along with other amazing skiers.
Registration opens today. Skiers under age of 18, ski in the U20 group ($115). Parents can ski, too (in a different wave)! It is expensive, but worth it! Let me know if you are interested. I am happy to figure out housing as a team – or you can travel with your family and meet us there!
Come celebrate your hardwork, improvement & accomplishments with your skiing friends. Dessert potluck & awards/slide show – you don’t want to miss it.
March 22, Tuesday at North House 6:30pm
Also, please complete the season-end survey. Your comments help us improve the program. One suggestion submitted: ‘Fewer hills during practice" Ha! Sorry, we won’t be able to accomodate all ideas!

Olya skied a strong 5K classic race on Wednesday with a time of 18:30. That landed her in 24th position to begin the 5K skate race on Thursday. Thursday morning dawned bitterly cold at -17F, and the races were delayed with the skate race postponed until 4pm. That gave Olya plenty of time to do math homework, watch the Olympic Team Relay sprints, and ski the course.
She was feeling confident about the skate race, and planned to go out fast and catch those racers ahead of her. And ski hard she did – passing 7 skiers – to finish 10th in the skate race and in 17th position in the overall pursuit. That’s quite an accomplishment considering she’s skiing against 110 of the best high school skiers in Minnesota!
Olya as she heads off to the State Meet – with signs and best wishes from her team going with her!
A great day at Giant’s Ridge Section 7 Meet:
Calm and confident, Cece finished her high school skiing career with this race. Cece has been on the team since the 7th grade!
Martine and Everett had strong performances at their first Sections meet.
Emma (joined by Jocelyn – Two Harbors teammate) skied in the Team Sprint race. Emma’s performance was super exciting as she sprinted to the finish.
Olya skied strong ending 4th overall in the Girl’s varsity pursuit. Her finish qualified her for the State Meet on Feb 16/17.
This young team has much potential. And while the season is drawing to a close, winter isn’t – Keep Skiing!
